SUMMARY:Bastian DEI Lecture: "Nice White Ladies and The Truth about White Supremacy"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Jessie Daniels addresses an unintended complicity of even well-meaning white women and a feminism that pushes women of color aside.\nAbout this event:\nThe B. W. Bastian Foundation generously and graciously sponsors the Bastian Foundation Diversity Lecture Series at Westminster College. The Foundation\, established in 1996 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Bruce W. Bastian\, strives to build community and understanding by supporting local and national institutions. Financial support is directed to educational outreach\, cultural and HIV/AIDS programs. A strong commitment is placed on programs and organizations that benefit\, encourage\, and preserve the rights of individuals and promote equality for the Gay\, Lesbian\, Bisexual and Transgender community.\n\n\n\nThis series is one of the College's most stimulating and thought-provoking initiatives that reflect its commitment toward the active and critical engagement of timely and relevant issues of diversity and inclusion. Each year\, we focus on a specific theme articulated through a variety of creative and innovative presentation formats that address the theme from a range of perspectives.\n\n\n\nThe theme for the 2021-2022 Bastian Foundation Diversity Lecture Series is "The Counterstory: How Policy Responds to Identity". This legitimate form of exploration and inquiry is used to magnify the stories\, lived experiences\, and truths of structurally marginalized communities. This theme seeks to provoke deep self-reflection of how one considers the lived experiences of others\, how those differences impact others' well-being\, and how one can contribute to tangible social change.\n\n\n\nAttendance is free.\n\n\n\nMasks are required in all shared\, indoor spaces on campus for all individuals (vaccinated or not vaccinated). For disability accommodations\, please email deievents@westminstercollege.edu at least five (5)business days prior to the event.
