SUMMARY:Salt Lake City Take Steps Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Take Steps Walk to benefit the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation (CCFA) brings together the community in a fun and energetic atmosphere\, encouraging them to make noise and be heard for the 1 in every 200 people who suffer from these diseases. Participants raise funds and awareness\, celebrating the strides made on walk day.\n\n\n\nCCFA is the major organization to provide education\, support services and other assistance to those in Utah who need it the most\, including local support groups\, programs and a life-changing camp for children and teens with IBD. \n\n\n\nAbout Crohn's and Colitis Disease:\n\nThe fastest growing population of people diagnosed with Crohn's disease and colitis are children under the age of 9 years old. The local needs are great as nearly 15\,000 in Utah are impacted directly with IBD and CCFA is the major organization to provide education\, support services and other assistance to those in Utah who need it the most. \n\n\n\nPatient Education and Support The Foundation sponsors a wide variety of patient and community programs. The chapter hosts educational programs and symposiums to offer topics about IBD including coping mechanisms\, nutrition\, pediatric issues\, research updates and treatments. \n\n\n\nCamp Oasis - Children attended a life-changing camp. Camp Oasis is carefully designed to meet the medical and psychosocial needs of children and teens and is offered to IBD patients between the ages of 7-17.\n\n\n\nResearch - The money raised by Take Steps is so critical because research like the Microbiome Initiative will lead us to new approaches to diagnosis\, treatment and potentially interventions prior to disease onset.\n\n\n\nPatient Advocacy - Our advocates are not only patients\, but family members\, friends\, caregivers\, and doctors who want to make their voices heard and see a future free from Crohn's and colitis.
