Building an Equitable Housing-Focused Architectural Practice
In establishing Lloyd Architects, Warren developed an innovative small firm practice model where students and recent graduates learn and grow as a team in a supportive firm culture, practicing architectural simplicity and gaining knowledge in design and construction methodology. Lloyd Architects is a small firm with an oversized impact within the community. Warren has supported housing-focused architectural education by teaching studios, participating in design juries, providing scholarships to students from underrepresented communities, and supporting student participation in design-build experiences such as Design Build Bluff on native lands.
In 2021, AIA Utah and Salt Lake City invited Warren to advise and leverage the resources of the national AIA CRAN network to organize and assist AIA Utah in the Empowered Living Design Competition. Warren’s experience guiding the Empowered Living Design Competition led Lloyd Architects to design the first affordable housing prototype with pre-fabrication processes for The Other Side Academy’s The Other Side Village, a permanent, deeply affordable housing community of “healing and purposeful living for people coming out of chronic homelessness.”
